Natural Wicker Coffins – Handmade Eco Wicker Coffins for Sale

Saying goodbye to someone you love is never easy, and choosing a coffin can feel like one decision too many. Our natural wicker coffins make that choice a little gentler. Each one is handwoven from natural rattan around a solid wooden frame, creating a coffin that is 100% biodegradable, quietly beautiful, and suitable for both burial and cremation.

More families across the UK are choosing wicker for exactly these reasons: a natural, dignified farewell that also cares for the planet. On this page you can browse our natural wicker coffins, see clear pricing from £325, and order online with free delivery to your funeral director. As an FSA member, we are accepted by funeral directors nationwide.

Natural Wicker Coffins for Sale

Unlike many coffin makers who supply only the funeral trade, we sell our eco wicker coffins directly to you. Families can order online in a few minutes, and funeral directors are equally welcome; many already work with us and know our coffins well.

Our Natural Wicker Eco Coffin comes in a warm, very light natural shade (not white) and in two sizes:

  • Medium — inside dimensions 180 × 50 × 30cm (71" × 19.5" × 12").
  • Large — inside dimensions 196 × 60 × 33cm (77" × 23.5" × 13").

If you would prefer a brighter finish, our White Wicker Eco Coffin offers the same handcrafted quality in a soft white tone. There is no pressure and no obligation at any point. If you are unsure what you need, our UK-based team is always happy to talk things through on 01277 815055 or at sales@ecocoffin.com.

Handmade Wicker Coffins, Crafted from Natural Materials

Every coffin we sell is made by hand from just five natural materials: core rattan, woven natural fibres, organic cotton, mango wood and natural rope handles, bonded with eco-friendly glue. There is no metal and no plastic anywhere in the construction. Each coffin includes a natural cotton liner, opaque wood privacy screens and a wooden nameplate.

Handwoven from Natural Rattan

Skilled artisans weave each coffin using traditional basket-making techniques. Natural fibres are twisted into rope and woven around a core rattan structure, giving the coffin its distinctive texture and gentle, organic character. Because each one is handmade, no two are ever exactly alike.

Strong Mango-Wood Frame and Base

Beneath the weave sits a solid frame and flat base made from mango wood, reclaimed from trees that no longer produce fruit so nothing goes to waste. The flat base sits securely on church trestles, crematorium runners and hearse decks, and every coffin is weight-tested to 190kg (30 stone) with weight-bearing handles. Wicker may look delicate; it is anything but.

Rattan: Naturally Renewable and Biodegradable

Rattan is a fast-growing climbing palm and one of the world's most renewable natural materials. It matures in a fraction of the time hardwood takes, which makes a rattan wicker coffin a genuinely sustainable choice rather than simply a stylish one.

Once buried, a rattan coffin breaks down naturally, returning nutrients to the soil without leaving metal, plastic or chemical finishes behind. For families choosing a woodland or natural burial ground, this matters: most green burial sites ask for a fully biodegradable coffin, and natural wicker meets that requirement beautifully.

Wicker Coffins for Burial and Cremation

A common worry is whether a wicker coffin will be accepted. The reassuring answer is yes. Our coffins are accepted by funeral directors nationwide and suit burial, cremation, and woodland or natural burial grounds across the UK.

For cremation, wicker burns cleanly and efficiently, with a lower environmental impact than coffins made with metal fittings or chemical veneers. For burial, the natural materials decompose gently into the earth. Whichever farewell you are planning, a wicker coffin will not limit your options. If your funeral director has not worked with us before, we are happy to speak with them directly.

Natural Wicker Coffin Price Guide

Our Natural Wicker Eco Coffin is currently available from £325, reduced from £500. That compares very favourably with traditional solid-wood coffins, which often cost considerably more once fittings and finishes are added.

A few factors influence the price of any wicker coffin:

  • Size — our Medium suits most needs; the Large offers more room where it is needed.
  • Craftsmanship — every genuine wicker coffin is woven by hand, and those hours of skilled work are reflected in the price.
  • What's included — the cotton liner, rope handles, privacy screens and a nameplate are all part of our price, with nothing added on.

Prices are shown clearly on the product page, and you can spread the cost with Klarna at checkout, so there are no surprises.

Why Families in the UK Choose Wicker Coffins

For many families, a wicker coffin simply feels right. Its natural simplicity reflects a life lived with care, without the formality of polished wood and brass. Others choose wicker as a final act of kindness to the environment, a farewell that gives back to the earth rather than taking from it.

Green funerals are growing steadily across the UK as more of us think about the legacy we leave behind. Whatever your reasons, a natural wicker coffin offers a farewell that is gentle in every sense. Every review of our Natural Wicker Eco Coffin is currently five stars; you can read what families have said on our reviews page.

How to Choose the Right Wicker Coffin

By size. The Medium suits most adults, while the Large gives more room where it is needed. Both share the same handwoven finish and natural materials.

By colour. Our natural wicker has a classic woven look in a very light natural shade (not white). If you would like a crisper, brighter appearance, the white wicker finish may suit better.

By style. Rattan, which we specialise in, is strong, fast-growing and excellent value. If you would prefer a softer, more traditional English look, willow coffins are worth reading about too. Both are fully biodegradable, so the choice usually comes down to appearance and budget.
